The process for mass customized 3D-printed footwear is more likely to begin at a shoe store that offers 3D scanning support. Apps may also offer the ability to mass customize some footwear products online via a mobile device. The next step is defining personal style needs and other basic requirements. Then the user moves on to select a customizable digital model. Once the final design is approved it is sent to be additively manufactured on-demand at a 3D printing service bureau. It is then finished—with the addition of traditionally manufactured uppers (or, in the future, even digitally customized upper) and packaged. It is delivered within two weeks.
